Recently we had a volkswagen crafter 2.5 tdi motorhome home visit us with a few issues.
Firstly the engine management light was on and the van was in limp mode. Prior to this the customer did mention the van felt. Slightly under powered since the conversation from van to camper.
First things first we set to work on resolving the limp mode and engine management light. Using volkswagen Odis we quickly found two fault codes p0401 and p0400 both are related to the EGR valve and cussing the limp home mode to be present.
We advised the customer on the cost of a replacement egr valve and the cost of an EGR disable. The customer soon called back and water to proceed with the EGR disable so we got to work on mocking up a physical blanking plate and started to read the software.
This volkswagen crafter uses the EDC16 ecu found in many VAG applications, we soon disabled the egr valve along with adding a stage 1 remap to give the customer a little more go making the weight easier to shift.
After logging the egr valve data on a test drive we could see 0% opening and we experienced a fault free test drive. We also logged boost and fuel to ensure the stage 1 remap was behaving as expected.
