Earlier this week we were called to Mundford near Thetford in Norfolk to diagnose a non starting Transit van for one of our clients. Last week we diagnosed a faulty ECU and fuel pump the vehicle would not turn over at all, on behalf of the customer we ordered an engine ECU this engine ECU was a used engine ECU upon arrival we removed the Old engine ECU and connected out Ford IDS diagnostics to the OBD port.
Once we had identify the vehicle and could communicate with it we set to work virginize the ECU and re coded with the latest software update directly from Ford,. Once the ECU had been updated we began to code the keys, we coded two new sets of keys or key fobs to the new engine ECU are just installed. Now that the keys were coded and the ECU was coded to the vehicle we ran an initialisation so the main engine ECU the communicate if the body computer and any other issues within the vehicle. On completion we then ran a full diagnostic test, the vehicle was fault free before we began to start the vehicle for the first time.
It had been sat for a while so we used the power pack and some easy start to get the van up and running, need we say we had one very happy customer. The customer was quoted in excess of £1,200 pounds buy a local mechanic or garage to get the van running including parts and our labour did this for significantly less then half the cost.
