Wet sanding, and polish

Today we got to work on cleaning up our little smart car. We were looking to freshen her up as the paint work had become dull and lacking gloss.

The wet sand

First of all we used our palm sander with some 2000 grit film to take a fine layer from the clear coat. The 2000 grit sanding takes a layer of clear off revealing brand a brand new surface to work from.

The cut

The cut involves a fine paste to remove the 2000 grit sanding marks and bring some shine back to the paint work. After a few passes in particular on painted plastic this leaves us with a good surface and a base to use some medium paste and from the medium paste we then move to fine paste all of this will remove any fine scratches and swirls.

The polish

We need to polish our fresh paint to give a deep glossy shine. The polishing stage will only be finished when you have the desired shine this could take 2 passes or 6 it really depends on what your working on and the desired finish and products you are using.
